The TAC Saferoads Awards
29 April 2004, Grand Hyatt, Melbourne

Note: Congratulations to all award winners. List soon to follow

Many Councils and community groups have been working to improve road safety within their community.

To recognise these achievements, the Saferoads partnership is accepting nominations for the 2004 TAC Saferoads Awards.

The awards will be presented at the ‘Saferoads 2004 – Key Issues, Local Solutions’ conference dinner on Thursday, 29 April 2004 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Collins Street, Melbourne.

The awards will be in the form of a plaque and a cash component of $3,000 for the first prize and $2,000 for the second prize, to be used towards future road safety initiatives.

The purpose of the awards are to:

• showcase effective local road safety programs;
• increase public awareness of road safety issues;
• encourage the development, innovation and/or improvement of road safety programs; and
• increase community ownership and participation in road safety.

Eligibility for awards are open to Victorian local government, schools and community groups. Eligible groups may nominate more than one program for an award.

Nominations will be assessed on the following selection criteria:

• A key local road safety issue is addressed and/or benefits derived
• Target audiences reached by the initiative
• A multi-action approach adopted
• Partnerships built during the process
• Effectiveness of program through evaluation
• Prospects of wider application or dissemination

An independent panel established by the Saferoads partnership will judge the nominations. The Panel’s decision will be final.

Award nominees must be prepared to deliver a presentation of their nomination as part of the Saferoads Conference program, if required.

Both written and electronic nominations will be accepted. Written submissions are to include one (1) original document and four (4) photocopies in an unbound hardcopy format. Any supporting materials should be kept to a minimum, and only one (1) copy is to be provided.
